First edition of EMWWR shines at Annual EWWR Awards Ceremony in Dublin

The EMWWR is a sister campaign to EWWR that aims to create awareness on waste prevention in the Mediterranean region. The 2022 edition focused on textile waste prevention and treatment in line with the EU Sustainable & Circular Textiles Strategy.

A survey for the upcoming UNEP-MAP Knowledge Management Platform

The survey was presented during the third meeting of the INFO/RAC National Focal Points (NFPs) held in Rome (Italy), 7-8 June 2023. The meeting discussed and approved the draft Programme of Work 2024-2025 and, among the different topics, the new Knowledge Management Platform had a central role. Focal Points were interactively involved in the process to individuate the future Knowledge Management Platform Users. Here it is possible to find a graph representing the possible products foreseen inside the platform and the possible search method used to achieve them.

Back on Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development

The 20th meeting of the Mediterranean Commission on Sustainable Development (MCSD), established under the auspices of the UN Environment Programme’s Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP), took place in Marseille (France) from 14-16 June 2023.

The SPAMI Twinning Programme: Fostering Peer-to-Peer Collaboration for Mediterranean Marine Conservation

The UNEP/MAP – SPA/RAC and the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security of Italy (MASE) are launching the SPAMI Twinning Programme “Ensure effective management of Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance (SPAMIs)” on June 8, 2023, in Rome, Italy, inception coinciding with the World Oceans Day.

15th Meeting of the Focal Points of REMPEC

The Fifteenth Meeting of the Focal Points of the Regional Marine Pollution Emergency Response Centre for the Mediterranean Sea (REMPEC) was held in Kappara, Malta, from Tuesday 13th to Thursday 15th June 2023.

European Blue Economy report 2023

The European Blue Economy report is a compass to help decision-makers and stakeholders navigate the waters of the European blue economy.

The 2023 edition of the report highlights the evolution of the blue economy sectors since 2010. It shows that despite the negative impact of the COVID19 pandemic and the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine, most of the analysed sectors increased their economic performances.

An historic achievement: Treaty of the High Seas is adopted

On June 19th, the Treaty of the High Seas was adopted during the United Nations meeting in New York. This Treaty is key to protect the ocean, promote equity and fairness, tackle environmental degradation, fight climate change, and prevent biodiversity loss in the high seas. It has been a priority for the European Union and its Member States, that have led negotiations at global level through the BBNJ High Ambition Coalition.

Plan Bleu and Union for the Mediterranean join forces at MEDCOP

On June 22-23, 2023, MEDCOP Climate “From COP27 to COP28: driving climate action in the Mediterranean at the local and regional levels” took place in Tangier, Morocco. This third edition was organised by the Mediterranean Climate House Foundation Tangier and the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region.
