The 23rd Meeting (COP23) of the Contracting Parties to the Barcelona Convention and its Protocols, which took place on 5-8 December 2023 in Portoroz (Slovenia), adopted important steps to protect ecosystems in the face of the rising impacts of the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution

KMaP… it’s coming!

Let’s meet Annalisa Minelli, Knowledge Management Officer at INFO/RAC and co-responsible for the development of the Knowledge Management Platform of UNEP/MAP.

KMaP is a unique access hub to UNEP/MAP knowledge heritage. It is not only a container, but it is structured in a way that the user can retrieve efficiently what he’s looking for. The first prototype is composed by two sections: the Data Hub, for geographical data, and the Knowledge Hub, for documental heritage.

COP28: European Commission commits €1 million to Blue Mediterranean Partnership

On Saturday 2 December, at the Blue Mediterranean Partnership‘s pledging conference, the European Commission committed to pledge €1 million to the recently established Blue Mediterranean Partnership. This collaborative initiative is designed to catalyse sustainable blue economy investments in the non-EU countries of the Mediterranean region, with a focus on the Southern Neighbourhood.

Commission to explore the future of fishers up to 2050

The Commission has launched ‘Fishers of the Future’, an EU-wide participatory project that will examine the future role of fishers in society up to 2050. 
The project will delve into the hopes, fears, expectations, and needs of fishers to understand how the profession is likely to evolve by 2050.
‘Fishers of the Future’ will also explore the expansion of fishers’ role in society beyond providing high-quality seafood. The ‘Fishers of the Future’ project is a key element of the Pact for Fisheries and Oceans’, announced on February 2023.
